Imogene E. Hammond

April 23rd, 1924 – February 14th, 2016

Imogene E. Hammond, 91, of Ipava, passed away at 10:45 am on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center in Cuba. She was born on April 23, 1924 in Macomb, the daughter of Gail and Edith (Kelly) Taber. Imogene married Gail Hammond on January 5, 1946 in Ipava. Gail preceded her in death on October 20, 1989.

Also preceding her in death are her 2 sisters, Shirley Marie Taber and Almalee Johnson.

Survivors include her daughter, Leta Shumaker of LaHarpe, son, John Hammond of Ipava, 4 grandchildren, Laura Claassen of LaHarpe, Ellen Hammond of Blandinsville, Cale (and Jessica) Hammond of Ipava and Randy (and Karen) Shumaker of LaHarpe, 8 great-grandchildren, Kayla Hammond, Colby Claassen, Destiny Shumaker, Chase Claassen, Macey Hammond, Avery Pence, Jazzlyn Hammond and Taylor Shumaker, and 2 sisters, Caroline “Jack” (and Mike) Yazvec of Ipava and Ann (and Clyde) Wys of Ipava.

Imogene was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ipava Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where served as treasurer for 50 years. She was also a 4-H leader and was a avid cardinal collector.

Services will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Kevin Kessler will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Interment will be in the Ipava Cemetery in Ipava at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Ipava Christian Church or the Ipava Fire Protection District.
