Richard L. Martin

January 30th, 1926 – June 21st, 2016

Richard L. Martin, age 90 of Vermont, IL, passed away at 1:52 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL. He was born on January 30, 1926 in Beardstown, IL, the son of Walter and Ethel (Pace) Martin. Richard married Phyllis France on June 28, 1952 in Ipava, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Michael (and Tamara) of Hanover Park, IL, Rick (and Cindy) of Macomb, IL, and Eric (and Laurie) of Astoria, IL, 4 grandchildren; Austin Martin, Ryan (and Ashley) Martin, Chris (and Alayna) Martin, and Kendra Camp.

Richard was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1944 to 1947 with a rank of Ordnanceman Second Class.

He worked for AMAX Coal Company from 1961 to 1985.

He was Fire Chief for the Vermont Fire Department for 20 years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 29th, 2016 at the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Fire and Rescue Squad and sent to the funeral home at PO Box 525, Astoria, IL 61501.
