Carolyn G. VanOrder

April 16th, 1935 – April 6th, 2017

Carolyn Grace VanOrder, age 81, passed away at 5:05 am on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, IL. She was born on April 16, 1935 in Table Grove, IL, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Kirkpatrick) Barkley. She married Forrest Newcombe in 1954 in Ipava, IL. He passed away on December 17, 2005. She later married Walter C. "Sonny" VanOrder on June 29, 1985 in Vermont, IL. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2005.

She was also preceded in death by her son Michael Newcombe, twin grandchildren, Zachary and Margaret Ann Rossmiller, and her brother Dr. Robert Barkley.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter Michelle (and Joseph) Rossmiller of Macomb, her daughter-in-law Mary Lou Newcombe of Chicago, 4 grandchildren, Justin Thea, and Quentin Rossmiller, and Jeremiah (and Vanessa) Newcombe, 1 great-grandchild Nathaniel James Newcombe, sister Virginia Doxstader of Macomb, and 2 nieces whom she raised, Sarah Barkley of Block Island, RI, and Ann Barkley of the state of Virginia.

She retired in 2011 from Western Illinois University as Clerk for Student Housing and Dining Services.

Carolyn was a life member of the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed NCAA basketball and Crocheting. She loved her dog Tessa and was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Ipava Cemetery. Pastor Doug Krukewitt will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5-7 pm on Sunday, April 9th at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Eastern Star services will be held at 7:00 pm provided by the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star. Memorials may be made to the McDonough County Humane Society.
