Mildred M. Brown

September 20th, 1922 – July 28th, 2014

Mildred Marie Brown, age 91 of Normal, IL, formerly of Vermont, IL, passed away at 11:00 am Monday, July 28, 2014 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, IL. She was born on September 20, 1922 in Vermont, a daughter of Sherman and Lulu (Kimmel) Miller. She married Vernal C. Brown on April 27, 1943 in Dallas, TX. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Rebecca Stauffer and Melba Jean Beaver.
Mildred was manager at The Bridal Shop in Macomb, IL and managed a fabric shop in Adair, IL.
She was a member of the Vermont Christian Church where she served as Deaconess and taught sunday school for 10 years. She was also a member of the Vermont American Legion Post #26 Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader for 9 years.
Mildred is survived by her son Reginald (and Eloise) Brown of Bloomington, IL, her daughter Joyce Brown of San Antonio, TX, 5 grandchildren, Aaron (and Denise) Brown, Douglas (and Cherri) Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Sara Brown, and Shelley Brown, 5 great-grandchildren, Leo, Channing, Allyson, Jacob, and Isaiah Brown, and 1 great-great-grandcson Channing Brown, Jr.
Mildred was an accomplished artist and sold paintings throughout Illinois and Florida. She enjoyed wintering in Florida with friends from across the country. When home, she enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering at church, and playing cards with friends. She was an avid reader who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sriratana and the staff at the Community Cancer Center in Normal and thank Dr. Ngom, Dr. Chalian, and the nurses at Advocate BroMenn in Normal for their excellent care.
Services will be Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Vermont Christian Church. Pastor Dave Vandeman will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vermont Christian Church.
