Elvie E. Norris

September 15th, 1929 – April 11th, 2018

Elvie Elwood Norris, age 88 of Astoria, IL, passed away at 11:14 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 15, 1929 in rural Macomb, IL, the son of Jesse and Nettie (Owens) Norris. He married Shirley Riebling on August 9, 1953 in Adair, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Ken (and Stacy Tew-Lovasz) Norris of St. Louis, MO and Kevin (and Tarra) Norris of Taylorville, IL, three grandchildren, Steven (and Contessa) Norris, Shelbi (and Nate) Turner, and Keegan Norris, five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Benjamin, Eayn, Fallon, and Kamery.

Elvie was preceded in death by his daughter Tina Norris, three sisters, Maxine Kitch, Evelyn Phillips, and Aleyne Roberts, and two brothers, Roger Norris and Glen Norris.

He was a farmer. He also worked at Ken-Ray Foundry in Vermont, IL, Astoria Fiber Steel, and Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria. He was custodian at Astoria Schools for 9 years.

Elvie was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Astoria and the South Fulton Antique Tractor Club. He was involved in Scouting for 15 years, 10 of which he was Scoutmaster in Astoria. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, He was a tinkerer and inventor in his spare time.

He loved spending time with his family.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, April 16, 2018 at Shawgo Memorial Home. Pastor Ben Murray will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9-11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Industry Cemetery in Industry, IL. Memorials may be made to the Grace Bible Church.
