Melinda D. Fagan

December 13th, 1943 – July 14th, 2018

Melinda Diane Fagan, age 74, of Dardenne Prairie, MO, passed away on July 14, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on December 13, 1943 in Mexico, MO, the daughter of Lowell and Hazel (Brown) Shepard Melton. She married Kenneth Fagan, Jr. on August 1, 1964 in Hull, IL. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2014.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Melinda is survived by two sons and a daughter; Kennan D. (and Lisa) Fagan of Troy, IL, Kevin D. (and Angela) Fagan of Mt. Sterling, IL, and Kimberly S. (and Jody) Bogue of Hannibal, MO, seven grandchildren; Kenna, Cameron and Connor Bogue, Alec and Caleb Fagan, and Ethan and Skyler Fagan, her sister Nancy (and Walt) Koertge of Olney, IL, cousins Chris Stewart and Brenda McCay, nephew Brent Koertge, and niece Shelli Wright.

Melinda taught science for 30 years in public education in Illinois and 9 additional years in Missouri and Kansas. During her time teaching at Barry High School, she also taught courses for John Wood Community College and, while teaching in Missouri, also taught at Moberly Area Community College. She loved teaching science, working with students in class and sponsoring their science fair projects. Melinda was a frequent presenter at teaching conferences, recipient of numerous awards in science education and was proud to be recognized as a student sponsor with regional, state and international science fair award winners.

Melinda earned her Undergraduate Degree in Biology at Quincy University as well a Graduate Degrees in Biology at Truman State University and Chemistry Education from Quincy University.

After retiring, she continued her passion for teaching, voluntarily coordinating a jewelry making class in St. Charles, MO. She continued to enjoy traveling, couponing, yard sales and dining out with friends and family.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 20th from 5-8 pm at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 3:30 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Pastor Aaron Foster will officiate. Family visitation will begin at 3:00 pm prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Melinda's memory to Mercy Virtual Care Center in care of Mercy Health Foundation or to the Jewelry Crafters Connection in care of Ann Womack. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery.
