Ethel M. Wright

July 22nd, 1917 – December 10th, 2014

Ethel M. Wright, age 97, of Vermont, IL, passed away at 7:25 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. She was born on July 22, 1917 in Red Clyffe, PA, the daughter of Cleveland and Leona M. Walters. Ethel married Cecil Wright, Jr. on March 3, 1945 in New Orleans, LA. Cecil preceded her in death on April 26, 2011.

Survivors include her daughter, Cecilia (and John) Kost of Vermont, IL, three grandchildren, Jennifer (and Hamish) Shaw, Melissa (and Brian) France and Cassandra (Josh) Nehmelman, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Ethel was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil and George Wright, her brother Garden Walters and her sister Olive Stitt.

She worked as a Block Operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad. She moved to New Orleans and worked for Todd Johnson Shipyard and as a Street Car Operator. After moving to Vermont, Ethel worked at the Vermont Foundry for 9 years and was owner/operator of the Vermont Cafe for 6 years.

She was a member of the Vermont Christian Church and the Vermont American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to quilt, bake and was a an excellent cook. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.

Services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2 pm at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Gary Sheets will be officiating. A visiation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery in Vermont, IL. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
