George H. Wise

August 27th, 1930 – July 16th, 2015

George H. Wise, age 84 of Astoria, passed away at 1:17 am on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on August 27, 1930 in Rushville Township, Schuyler County, IL, a son of George G. and Flossie F. (Ogden) Wise. George married Helen McMullen Schisler on June 9, 1984 in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are 5 daughters, Marsha Colletta of Oakland, OR, Carrie Wise of Pensacola, FL, Kristen (and Brad) Bettencourt of Annapolis, MD, Christy (and Dave) Hultgren-Schisler of Peoria, IL, and Lori (and John Romano) Schisler of Springfield, IL, 4 sons, Ed (and Kathryn) Wise of Worland, WY, Dan (and Robin) Wise of Bolingbrook, IL, Jim (and Barb) Schisler of New London, IA, and Tom (and Annette) Schisler of Troy, MO, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Iona Wise of Astoria.

George was preceded in death by 3 son-in-laws, Larry Pelzman, Michael Colletta, and Sam Easley, and 2 brothers, Ronald and Gilbert Wise.

George worked in the Electro Motive Division of General Motors in LaGrange, IL for 30 years. He also drove a school bus for the Astoria Community Unit School District for 23 years.

He was a member of the Astoria Christian Church, a life member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25, a life member of the VFW Post #5788 of Lockport, IL, a member of the 40 et 8 Voiture #796 of Will County, IL, a member and past president of the Astoria Lions Club, and a member of the South Fulton Senior Center in Astoria.

Services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Fulton Senior Center in Astoria.
