Opal M. Stambaugh
October 22nd, 1925 – August 8th, 2015
Opal M. Stambaugh, age 89 of Summum, IL, passed away at 6:55 am on Saturday, August 8, 2015 in the Havana Healthcare Center in Havana, IL. She was born on October 22, 1925 in Vermont, IL, the daughter of Ernest William and Grace Mae (Dutton) Hopping. Opal married Wayne Devere Stambaugh on October 24, 1945 in Schuyler County, IL. He preceded her in death on August 5, 1997.
Opal was also preceded in death by three sons, Max Stamabaugh and 2 infants, three brothers, Clifford and Miner Hopping and an infant, and two sisters, Emma Root and Betty June Hopping.
Surviving are her daughter Rosemary (and Larry) Mason of Ipava, IL, three granddaughters, Jeanie Davis, Jennifer Blickenstaff, and Rachel (and Clint) Laethem, seven great-grandchildren, Austin Davis, Brittany Poppenhager, Hunter Poppenhager, Braden Davis, Brenna Davis, Mason Blickenstaff, and Ella Laethem, and her sister Melba Davis of Bardolph, IL.
Opal was a homemaker. She also did cleaning for several area families and was a sorter at Mummert Seed Company in Astoria.
She was a member of the Summum Christian Church and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 10:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ken Peterson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Summum Christian Church.
